Hambock / Hombock (the pronunciation depends on the mother tongue)

Long before the colonial period were the cities on the coast well known. These cities represent the entire country. Sun cities like Hamburg, or Douala Libreville were both shopping centers, and meeting with foreigners.

When the Germans arrived in Douala, it was clear that they were from Hamburg, as well as Hamburg was a port city like Douala. They were called with a weird regional accent: "Hamburg".

The German rule, the "hamburger" have introduced the compulsory labor. The locals were from these "burgers" sent away to the plantations to do their duty work. The Germans, "hamburger" called were the locals over naturally incur. to work all day without earning a dime was a big disturbance!

In almost all native languages \u200b\u200bin Cameroon, the colonial word "Hambock / Hombock "- derived from Hamburg is a synonym for disorder. This word is now commonplace and used regardless of ethnic origin of all Cameroonians. Since that time, recalls every disturbance to the Hamburg at the time.

It is said colloquially often: "do not humbock me!", That is not bothering me! (How these hamburgers)! The word you've probably already used or heard! So

neighborhood! No "Hombock" please!
